For the fifth year in a row Dylan came to Europe for a summer tour. This time it was really a Mediterranean tour, the only exceptions being the two Fleadh festivals and the Gurten festival in Bern, Switzerland. A new country, Portugal, was added to the Dylan map. The shows were really excellent with Dylan in a better voice than for many years and reportedly much healthier as well. Some even say he's stopped smoking. These European shows will be remembered for their long songs. In Vitoria, Spain 17 songs took 155 minutes, which means that each song in general was longer than 9 minutes! Dylan played lead guitar for most of these shows leaving John Jackson mostly to rhythm guitar work.

The show in Lyon had to be cancelled, reportedly due to Dylan's back problems. They were not evident at the last show in Bern and apparently haven't bother Dylan since then.

Guests

César Diaz, Dylan's guitar technician, played electric guitar on songs 5, 6, 12-15 at the show in Cascais, Portugal on July 13.
