7 the never-ending tour CONTINUES
For the seventh year in a row Bob Dylan
spent a good deal of his time on the road. This is also the fifth year of the
Never-Ending Tour. Rumours in late 1991 had it that Dylan would take a long
break. In the end he decided to give it another year. This year he played 92
concerts that kept getting longer and longer despite the fact that the number
of songs remained constant. The shows were in general of a much greater quality
compared to 1991, mostly due to Dylan's apparent renewed interest in both
singing and playing guitar. Maybe as a consequence he became less and less
talkative. Some of the late 1992 shows rank as the best ever from the
Never-Ending Tour!
The 1992 tour consisted of five new "legs":

The addition of Bucky Baxter on a steel guitar and
other guitar variants also meant a fuller sound and a greater diversity in
arrangements. During the spring tour Dylan also added an extra drummer, making
the backing band a quintet.

After the first show in Australia, which had the 1991
format, all shows were structured as follows:
Main set: 7
electric songs
4 acoustic
2 electric
1 acoustic
with the band/1 electric
1 electric
Encores: 2
electric
1 acoustic
solo
All in all 18 songs. Exceptions were
summer festival shows, which were generally shorter and some shows with fewer
or no encores, due to either bad weather or sound problems.
